The Local Church, Agent of Transformation seeks to fill an important gap in evangelical literature.
The impulse for its publication emerged from the editors´ concern for a work which would set out clearly the qualities that a local church must have to be prepared to undertake the task of being "salt of the earth" and "light of the world" in its own neighborhood. The result is this book, which was made possible by the collaboration of writers associated with the Latin American Theological Fraternity.
The work is in two parts. The first, which comprises chapters 1 to 9, is concerned with a theoretical framework for an ecclesiology of integral mission. The second, chapters 10 to 13, offers four models of churches engaged in integral or holistic mission in Latin America -"models" not in the sense of perfect exemplars to be followed in other contexts, but rather as concrete illustrations of how the principles of integral mission have been embodied in local churches in specific situations.
The hope is that these examples of what is possible will inspire in other communities the same commitment to God's mission in the world, to the glory of Jesus Christ, Light of light and King of kings.
